The Big T Story

It's about the music

Travis "Big T" Russell is a singer/songwriter and has been playing and performing since he was 9 years old. His music is best classified as country mixed with some classic rock. He currently resides in Clayton, NC, but can be found performing in venues all over the State of NC and beyond. Big T has been his nickname since the birth of his son, "Little T" and has stuck with him ever since.

Like most country musicians, Travis sang in gospel choirs and choruses at an early age. This voice training helped shape his vocals today.

His early influences came from storytellers such as Doc Watson and the great blues artists such as Mississippi John Hurt and Bill Broonzy. He was trained as a music major right out of high school and vocally trained since his early childhood.

Storytelling is key to Big T's approach to music. Simply playing music because it sounds good is not as appealing as using his music to tell a story. His stories are based on real-life experiences, some whimsical and some more poignant. This style is what differentiates Big T from everyone else out there playing "the circuit." Passion about the topic is what Big T projects during every performance, big or small. Audiences everywhere give accolades for his strong voice and vocal range.

You can find Big T at your local brewery, dive bar, or even the County/State fair! The venue is not as important as the opportunity to get his message out there and he is always looking for new and unique opportunities to perform. Check the calendar on this site, and be sure to reach out and say hello!
